Business Valuation FAQs

Common Questions Financial Advisors Ask About Valuation Services

The key reasons to get a valuation are the purchase or sale of a business, sharing equity, contingency planning, estate planning, taking on debt/loans, and benchmarking. In reality – all business owners should receive a valuation on their Company, allowing them/you to track your value and all of the key performance indicators that impact the value.

Generally, it is the owner/operator of the business that engages SRG for the valuation. But, in some cases, it may be the buyer valuing a seller’s business, a successor seeking a value for loan purposes, etc.
All valuations receive a questionnaire appropriate to your business upon engagement. that can be completed using our myCompass system. The complexity of the questionnaire varies based on the valuation tier. For Elite Valuations for example, SRG will also need company financials. We will never ask for anything client-specific.

There are many reasons for getting a valuation of your firm, including selling your business, building an accurate formula into a buy-sell or shareholder/partnership agreement, sharing equity with a partner or your team, obtaining a larger line of credit, securing insurance for the business, placing a value on your personal balance sheet for estate planning, or divorce/partnership disputes to name a few examples.

Valuations are most useful for our clients when used as part of the annual business planning process – allowing them to manage their most valuable asset with full information.
